The Riddler Was What We’re Hoping Mysterio Would Turn Out In The MCU

Looking back on the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it appears like its most awaited villain would’ve delivered more.

Paul Dano’s portrayal of the menacing Edward Nashton better known as The Riddler carried the direction of the movie The Batman to an incredible overall story. From his fair intentions and his unpredictable ways and also with incredible executions to his number of plans, it really shows his threat as a villain. He shows danger not only for the citizens of Gotham, but for also the Police, and the Government, and also drags Batman down to that fear.
Though it might be a horrible comparison to Mysterio who was played by Jake Gyllenhaal, Quentin Beck was a weak villain because of his weak ambitions. To look like a hero in front of the world because every hero in the world is no longer available at the moment is just not that strong scheme in today's modern-time superhero movies. Though to sum this up, the MCU did not really have a choice, Spider-Man: Far From Home was the upcoming movie right after Avengers: Endgame. And it seems like they need to make a way that Tony Stark will somehow affect the movie. One, for Peter Parker, still grieving during the movie, and two, for somehow Mysterio to mess that up and ruin it, with him in the Tony Stark picture.
Which, everyone already had problems with Iron Man being involved with Tom Holland’s standalone movies. It was not welcomed, and they feared that Tony might take the spotlight away from Spider-Man. Though during Far From Home, it got all messy, first you have Peter Parker still grieving Stark’s death, though this plot is important since Stark was there during Homecoming, and his goal during that time was to become a full fledge hero, and during FFH he is already an Avenger. That's why "Nick Fury" chose him to do those missions because he was the only available hero on Earth at that time.
That’s why his sudden vacation in Europe came to place, personally Spider-Man away from New York City was really off, anyway we are getting sidetracked. This was already the time during the movie that Peter does not want to suit up at the moment and want to spend time with his personal life, to take a break since he just suffered a great loss and also a tough stretch of days during Infinity War and Endgame, which probably was very exhausting and life-threatening experience.
And came Mysterio, it sucks that back-to-back villains Vulture & Mysterio were all Iron Man-driven bad guys, which makes it kinda forced this time compared to Vulture and it was pretty much the same angle, their works being ruined by Tony Stark, which shapes them to a different persona. And he did not have personal problems with Spider-Man, it was more on Tony Stark and it’s just that Peter was in the way.
Compared to how The Riddler was to Batman, his personal reasons came out during the ending of the film, which gives more weight to why he does such things. It was also written beautifully for both of them to have the same goal to unmask the truth and let the two engage most of the time in the movie, without even seeing both fight each other like your usual superhero movie, that was so impressive.
And that was the weakness of Mysterio, he did not live up to his name. He was not even as near as mysterious or a big threat to the world, and the plot twist of him being a former Stark employee was also a very weak reveal, we have tons already of that in the MCU. It would have been much better if we were to see him work on his own craft than have a whole movie crew just because his powers are special effects. He did not show any massive weight on his evil plans and did even just to have a personal threat to Peter Parker or Spider-Man. FFH definitely is the 2007’s Spider-Man 3 of Tom’s career as Spider-Man, as it is the worst out of the three.
Hopefully, Mysterio is still alive in the MCU, and be the leader of the Sinister Six if the rumors are true that Tom Holland will have a second Spider-Man trilogy. Together with Vulture, Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, Scorpion, and with also the announced Madame Web movie, a Sinister Six film must happen. And Mysterio being the integral villain for that movie is just perfect since he was the reason why Spider-Man gave up his Peter Parker life. Now they have a much more personal rivalry and can make that story much deeper with the correct writers.
A few movies have already been released in the MCU Phase 4, we already have disappointing villains with Taskmaster and the best one since Thanos who was bringing back Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin.
Expecting much greater villains in the future with amazing stories.
