Who Is To Blame For Spider-Man: No Way Home Delay In The Philippines?
Updated: Jan 7, 2022
Furious Filipino fans upset that they will further wait until January 8 to watch No Way Home, but who are really to blame for the delay?
Hi we are El Vista Novias. We make reviews and reactions from the latest and previous movies, tv series, music and many more. Check out our YouTube Channel for the reviews we do right after we watch movies from the cinema and follow us in our social media platforms for more updates.
Columbia Pictures Philippines
Their social media pages were bombarded by angry fans and repeating the hashtag #DontDelayNoWayHomePH. With expectations that the movie distributors will consider making a limited release, (even for just three days? Come on! The ticket sales for that!) with only 6 days left until worldwide premiere, it's sad to say that Filipinos might have to keep their money this Christmas. But why would Columbia Pictures Philippines ignore the fans? I think the simple answer to that is, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
Like all of us, they have their own bosses, and probably the idea of maybe squeezing in No Way Home might be a bad idea for the producers of Resident Evil, until the end of the day, they still want to earn their shares of income. So sacrificing RE will probably bad for the producers of that film as they also will have a hard time already in the Box Office as they have the same release month with No Way Home. And Columbia Pictures Philippines has to follow their schedules that's why they pull of an MMFF on all of us (release Resident Evil first, Filipinos have small choice of watching the film as they will wait for Spider-Man next month) for Resident Evil to still earn money. And I think they won't be feeling the disadvantage of having a delay No Way Home release as it will still have a good amount of ticket sales, probably a better box office than Eternals here in the country.
December
The month of December is horrifying for moviegoers, December releases like Aquaman, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse got delayed to January because of the Metro Manila Film Festival. With that said this won't be a rant against MMFF, that would be probably written for another article.
Every Filipino is probably aware that the first two weeks of December is the only time they can enjoy foreign films that they love. That's why when the announcement of cinema returning in the Philippines was released, fans had this feeling that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be affected, since movies that have been released months ago will be prioritized first and will create a domino effect for the rest of the following films. And for that to happen on late November, and MMFF coming near, it was all a recipe for disaster for Spider-Man fans.
Coronavirus
Probably the most fault of them all, without Covid-19 we all probably have watched NWH last July as it was the original release date before the schedule was pushed to December. Which also the reason why we weren't all able to enjoy the movie releases this year with films like Godzilla vs Kong, Black Widow, Cruella & Conjuring 3. Some probably pirated Shang-Chi and Eternals months ago just to keep up with everybody who's already watched it all around the world.
Coronavirus impacted everyone badly here in the country. Inspite of the delay, most of us who live in areas which cinemas are already opened are enough fortunate that cinemas are available. Having a 3 week delay of No Way Home probably is not that bad enough to cry about and can be celebrated next year.
